The Massachusetts Asian Society Athletic Establishment (MASAE) is primarily a not-for-profit, basketball organization dedicated to developing young athletes from the Boston area. Established in 2006, MASAEās foundation is built upon the idea that in a community effort, we can strive to improve the social conditions for Asian youth in American society through the power of sports and friendship.
Aside from sports, MASAE also serves as a social club to build a network from which its members can use for the rest of their lives. The team unity and networking of our club creates a family environment where members can rely on the respect and advice of their peers and elders. As a team, we use a collaborative effort to volunteer in various charity works in and around the city of Boston. MASAE takes pride in catering to Asian youths from urban backgrounds, and have purposely sought out venues and activities to cater to this demographic.
MASAE was formed with the intentions of bringing a contemporary attitude and philosophy that represents the Asian-Americans living in the inner-cities today. This philosophy is taught strengthen the relationship between traditional parents and their assimilated children, thus, creating a coexistence of new and old values. While most organizations will only interact with Asian youths outside of their urban environment, MASAE was built to insistently work with inner-city Asian youths in their own urban setting in order to promote pride in their community along with their backgrounds and lifestyles. Our list of achievements since the club was established has accumulated into an impressive sum of awards and recognition throughout the state. MASAE also has gained basketball notoriety throughout the United States and Canada for our participation in our national tournaments every year.
As a club we also take our youth members on hiking and camping trips in the wilderness for team retreats. Our young members learn to build camp fires, set up tents, and other wilderness survival training. But these outdoor trips also serve as an opportunity to take these youth outside of their city setting and into an unfamiliar but positive environment where they can reflect on their lives and appreciate the luxuries they have been accustomed to for so long.
Our long term objective is to create a safe haven for the Asian-American youth of the Boston inner-cities while continually creating previously unavailable opportunities and outlets that will tap into their potentials. We intend on persevering through the times through our close interaction with the community and the support from its members. MASAE will always have an uncompromising advocacy for the unheard voices of Asian Americans in our ever-changing society.
