Congratulations to Fiona Tang

This past weekend Scituate high school hosted their annual Scituate Harbor Holiday Classic and had four competitive varsity girls squads battle it out. Randolph high school, Abington high school, Mount Saint Joseph Academy, and the host team, Scituate high school.

Our very own MASAE girls, Ashley Andrade and Fiona “Wu” Tang, were representing their high school, Randolph high, as co-captains in the tournament. After a medicore performance in a blowout loss to Abington high, Fiona came back the next day with a new determination to seek revenge on a team that defeated them with a last second three pointer just a week prior in the season, Mount Saint Joseph Academy. There would be no opportunities for buzzer sounding heroics as Fiona went on a tear and lead her team with a stat line that would make Chris Paul proud; 18 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals. Randolph high shuts down Mount Saint Joseph Academy with 30 point blowout.

Fiona takes home the Scituate Harbor Holiday Classic All Tournament honors with her stellar performance. As her trainer/coach in the off-season, it is a reward for us as a program to see our young Fi-Fi excel in a sport she works so hard at. As a player who came into our program with very raw skills, but showed a good deal of potential, it is amazing to see the improvement she has shown over the past year. She spent the entire summer working on her offense, particularly her outside shooting and finishing, to make her a more complete player. Despite the unorthodox form she possesses (The Crane!), the reps she’s put in just over the summer alone has officially made her a threat from behind the arc. Although she is semi-ambidextrous going to the rim, she was not able to finish, at all. But now she can go to the hoop in any direction, hop step, and finish with either hand. The results of one of the most improved players in the program is a testament to her work ethic. Drills, drills, drills can be attributed to her new found recognition on the hardwood. At this rate, success is always lurking around the corner, and we hope it doesn’t inflate her apple-shaped head. Much respect Fiona “Wu” Tang, MASAE is proud of you.
